Uganda’s Agricultural Produce Is The Best- Kadaga

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East Africa Community Affairs in Uganda Rt Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga had a meeting with Ghana’s Deputy Minister of  Tourism, Arts and Culture Hon. Mark Okraku Mantey.

Hon. Mantey was interested in the East African Block which he is following seriously and he applauded the Government of Uganda for the continuous efforts that it has invested in the region.

He further noted that as a region, there’s need of more efforts in promotion of sports, Music and Tourism. Because First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Of East Africa Community Affairs in Uganda Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga had promoted Uganda’s areas of Tourism. Agriculture and Trade, Hon Mantey expressed his interest to visit Uganda and have an experience of its Tourism industry which he has had for a longtime. Rt. Hon Kadaga welcomed  her counterpart’s request to visit Uganda and the two ministers agreed to make arrangements.

OPPORTUNITIES:

Since Uganda is a member state of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area, while at her stay in Ghana, The first Deputy Prime Minister noticed the not conforming to the standard variety of pineapples produce and yet Uganda has the best pineapples compared to that of Ghana. The Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture of  Ghana agreed with the Rt. Hon Kadaga on that issue and he promised to engage the Minister of  Agriculture in Ghana further more to be part of the delegation in his visit to Uganda  and hold bilateral talks on the Agricultural produce and export to Ghana. 

Uganda mostly exports agricultural products (80 percent of total exports). The most important exports is coffee (22 percent of total exports) followed by tea, cotton, copper, oil and fish. Uganda’s main export partners are Sudan (15 percent), Kenya (10 percent), DR Congo, Netherlands, Germany, South Africa and UAE.

Rt.Hon REBECCA ALITWALA KADAGA appointed in June 2021 as the 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs in the Uganda Government. She is also the Speaker Emeritus of the 9th Parliament (2011- 2016) and 10th (2016- 2021) Parliament. 

She was elected President of the International Federation of women Lawyers (FIDA UGANDA) and in that capacity was responsible for establishing the Legal Aid Scheme, the FIDA Legal Aid Clinic which offered the Pro-Bono Legal Schemes to indigenous women. Today, FIDA Legal Aid Clinic is a household name in Uganda, sensitizing Advocating and protecting people’s rights. This Advocacy saw her rise in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (Africa Region) and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (International) where she became Africa’s and the International President.

Rebecca Kadaga  is a Lawyer, educated at the famous Makerere University (LLB)   and the University of Zimbabwe (Master in Women Rights  2003) has a honorary Doctorate of Laws of Busoga University (2014) and a Doctorate of Laws of Nkumba University (Oct.2019)

In the National General Elections on 14th January, 2021, Rebecca Kadaga was massively elected as Member of Parliament for Kamuli DISTRICT. RT. Hon Kadaga is a member of the Central Executive Committee – (CEC) as the 2nd Vice chairperson of the National Resistance Movement ((NRM).
