Message from The Minister

On behalf of the Government and People of the Republic of Uganda and on my own behalf, I welcome you to the Ministry of East African Community Affairs (MEACA) website.

Established in 2007, the Ministry has a robust mandate to steer Uganda’s regional integration agenda in accordance with the objectives of the Treaty for Establishment of East African Community.

The East African Community is in it’s 22nd year, since it revival in 1999. It has a long term vision 2050 that articulates the aspirations of the Community and Partner States. The Vision is the region’s effort in consolidating momentum that will drive the region into socio-economic transformation, prosperity and sustainable development.

It is worth noting that, the Community has made significant strides in implementation of the key pillars of integration, notably; Three out of the four Protocols that constitute the pillars of the EAC integration have been signed and ratified; the Customs Union, the Common Market and the Monetary Union. The foundation for the fourth Pillar that is Political Federation has been laid with a Political Confederation adopted by the 18th Ordinary Summit as a transitional model for EAC Political Federation. The process of drafting a legal framework for the Confederation has commenced.

It is my sincere hope that Ugandans and all of you, our stakeholders, will embrace the opportunities provided by these protocols as we deepen the EAC Integration.

This website will keep abreast on the milestones achieved in the integration agenda. The Ministry has established and equipped a functional Resource Center. Its a one stop center for all information on EAC integration. I encourage students and other young people, business community, and the general public to visit and attain more information and deeper knowledge as we coordinate the process of having one East Africa.

It is our pleasure therefore, to share with you, through this website, our achievements, strategic programs and efforts towards the integration agenda. Our core responsibilities are aimed at realizing the vision of the EAC as a “prosperous, competitive and secure, stable and politically united East Africa”.

I wish you the best as you navigate through this website for information that we are sure will be of immense value to you in respect of EAC integration. Please do not hesitate to contact us on the address provided for any inquiries.
